Tomorrow is the PCOS 5K, and I am excited to see many new locations, many new participants, a whole lot of new stuff since last year!
I wanted to take a minute to give you all credit you deserve.
It can be intimidating and daunting to start a new nonprofit. It can seem like every other diagnosis around you is raking in the fundraiser money, while no one seems to care about the problems you are faced with.
It can feel like there's no use. Like there's no way one woman walking can change the face of PCOS.
It can seem like by the time anyone gets this going…you won't care anymore, so why bother?
Which is why it is all the more special that without the fluffy sponsorships and big name spokespeople, you all decided to raise money anyway.
And you know what? You are making a difference.
Someone in the park where you meet to walk, is watching you and being inspired. Someone is following your comments on Facebook and thinking maybe they should get involved, too.
It doesn't matter what your Twitter follower count. Or your donation size.
What matters is that you, in the things you choose to do in the course of 24 hours, choose the things that nurture your own health and perhaps give strength to another woman who perhaps is where you were before you decided to take action.
You are making a difference. I am inspired by the collective energy of all of you and so excited to see what happens when this group, who I always remind is the most creative group of women I know, chooses to pool that energy and channel it toward a common goal.
When you're out there tomorrow, most importantly, have a great time! You're all special, and you're doing something special.
Bask in it.
